Standard Rentals

These rentals are for young and beginner players. As children grow they would need a number of different sizes of instruments before graduating to a full size.

Upgraded Rentals

Upgraded rentals are recommended for serious students who need instruments with higher potential. The outfit includes an upgraded instrument, wooden bow, and case.

Rental fees

Purchase Information

Our rental program allows all rental payments to be applied to the purchase of a full size instrument up to 30% of its purchase price (not to exceed $1000.00). Rental Insurance and late fee payments do not apply to purchase. Credit from renting a violin can only be applied towards purchase of a violin, cello rental credit can only be applied towards purchase of a cello, etc. The renter loses all accumulated equity upon return of the rented instrument and cancellation of the rental contract.

Rent-To-Own Instruments

The instruments available for this option are in the following price ranges:

A deposit is required - $300.00 for violin/viola and $400.00 for cello - and the remaining balance is spread over a ten-month, interest-free payment plan.

Maintenance and Replacement Insurance (M&R)

The M&R covers normal wear and tear, bow rehair/repair, loss and theft, accidental damage limited to open seams, breakage and adjustment to the bridge or sound-post, and ungluing of fingerboard. If the instrument is lost or stolen, it will be replaced with one of equal quality at no additional cost however, a police report is required before replacement can occur. All necessary repairs to keep the instrument in proper playing condition will be performed by Classic Violins at no additional charge. Damage resulting from negligence and malicious damage are not covered under the Rental Insurance. Classic Violins will make a reasonable determination as to whether an instrument is returned with damage that is not normal wear and tear, in which case the renter would be liable for the incurred costs. In addition, cello renters will be required to pay a $100.00 fee, bass renters - $180.00, if the neck breaks out of the instrument, regardless of how it occurred.

We are different from other violin shops in the way we make and maintain our rental instruments. Classic Violins’ rental instruments are:

• hand-carved in our violin shop in Europe where we have constant control over the making procedures, quality, and dimensions
• made of high quality European maple and spruce
• hand-varnished with alcohol varnish
• set up with ebony fingerboards and pegs
• set up with Dominant strings and Wittner tailpiece with built-in tuners
• set up with individually fitted French bridge and sound post
• equipped with a bow with horse hair
• maintained by professional violin makers, graduates of the Chicago School of Violin Making
